October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,
and to celebrate we’ll be thinking pink today !!

Last saturday...
I was shopping with my human sister Marjolein.
Meow..meow..
It was our girls day :-)
We have that once a month.

We saw a pink-ribbon shop
and our favorite color is pink :)

We went inside
looked around
and then .......

Wow !!!
She saw a bracelet
and would buy it
but I wanted that also ;)

And here you can see

is the perfect size for a new collar for me ..,

Hi dear friends

We're back .....

after a long summer break :)

And we have a lot to tell you !!!

Our sweetheart Betsie was last week in heat

and it took four LONG days :(

It was a very difficult time for Betsie

but also a VERY difficult time for me and Kareltje :P

She was unusually affectionate,

by sidling up and rubbing her hind quarters

against furniture,

stuffed toys, Kareltje and me.

Betsie also meow ..meow.. very loud

(day and night) :(

Kareltje could not always handle this situation

but he was very sweet for Betsie

(you can see it all on this video :)

She will be spayed on october 20th.

Betsie is now a young lady cat

and no little baby anymore :-)

Finally a new post
our Mommy is so lazy ;-)
Apparently ....
she is very well equipped back from holiday !

Well ....
We had a vacation to ~~ Cat Hotel ~
in the south of Limburg,
because our big sisters and Mommy went to Turkey :-)
I stayed here during holidays for 12 years
but Betsie was the first time here !!

She was very scared at first,
you can see it on her tail
which is thick and points down :(
But after a few days
she was also on a relaxing holiday ;-)

The cat hotel features
indoor and outdoor accommodation.
Rooms and suites all have two shelves for napping
and observing,
a basket or bed and fluffy towels,
private litter box,
the best food and fresh water.
And very important ~Fresh catnip~ ,
first-class room service, and loving attention :-)

Betsie enjoyed the many cocktails
and Kareltje enjoyed at its best.

After 10 days ....

I'm so glad you're back !!
I missed you(r) (toes) so very much ;-)

it started two weeks ago.
The two red boxes were removed from the attic !!

When I opened the door of my car

So so sweet ... but he was crying
He was lost his mommy :(

Is that because you can’t fly ?
Its not hard, you have to try ...

Happy Easter
in Dutch we say Vrolijk Pasen :-)

Easter time in The Netherlands
is a beautiful inspiring time of year.
Spring is in its infancy,
sharing with it: singing birds, dancing fluffy animals
and nice warm weather
( this year Yeahhhhh.... 26C )
We can take a sunbath this year...
( our white skin needs that Heehee..... :-)

Easter is also a great eat festival
many food and many delicious sweets like CHOCOLATE!!
We have chocolate eggs and rabbits
and I love that very much :)))

A few facts about chocolate:

If you've got melted chocolate all over your hands,
you're eating it too slowly .....

The three best pleasures in life are
a healthy life, lots of love and eating chocolate :-)

Did you know that :
a nice box of chocolates can provide
your total daily intake of calories in one go.
Now isn't that handy !!!

The move is over ...
now its time to make your house a home

She start to feel comfortable at home.
She is sweet for Kareltje and Kareltje
is like a big brother to her ;)
They play together, they run together,
and Kareltje washed her fur :-)

Only two problems :

Kareltje is eating kitty food
and Betsie steals senior food
(special food for old cats)
But I keep my EYES open :-)

And Betsie sleeps often in Kareltje's bed
he must look for another sleeping place ;)
Poooooor Kareltje ....

We receive many friends and relatives
for the baby-shower !!
An old tradition in Dutch its to serve :

~ Beschuit met muisjes ~ (biscuits with little mice)
No no ... it's not what you think ...
not a real mouse .......

Beschuit met muisjes (biscuits with little mice)
is the traditional food served to celebrate
the birth of a baby in the Netherlands.
Beschuit are similar to rusks but a little softer.
They are spread with butter and the little mice
are sprinkled on top.
These little mice are sugared anise seeds.
They are sold in a mixture of two colours:
White and pink or white and bleu.
Pink for a baby girl and bleu for a baby boy :-)
When a child is born in to the royal House of Orange,
orange mice are sold :)))

They are " Chocolate Point Siamese cats "
Her Daddy's name is 'Sir Henry' from Germany
her Mommy's name is "Pruts" from Belgium
They are living together in Belgium.
The parents have four babies,
two girls and two boys.
The girl with the longest tail is our Betsie.
She is coming sunday to our home
in The Netherlands.

I am deeply saddened to tell you that Wilfred,
passed away on the early morning of October 14, 2010.

Our heart is broken !!

I have only just lost you
the pain is hard to bear :(
Do I have to go through life
knowing your not there
Please some one explain to me
why he had to go !!
Are there any reasons
I really need to know.
I sit here and remember
all the lovely times we shared.

I am told:
the pain will ease in time
and I will think of him without a tear,
but that will be impossible
as I need to have him here.
The love we had,
even death cannot sever
deep in my heart it lives forever ....

A Daddy is a person
(and I'm a cat ;)
And often he knows
what I have on my mind

He always gave me food
every single day ...
He's someone who listens always
when I say Meow..meow..

He loves always my purrss...
He stroked my fur every day
It was almost a massage
I miss him so much ... at home :(

A Daddy can be patient
and helpful and strong
In all that I do
a Daddy's love plays a part.

There's always a place for him
deep in my heart
And each day that passes
you're even more glad

More grateful and proud
just to call him my Daddy!!

for listening and caring

for giving and sharing

12 weeks ago .....

Hello to all our friends
We are missing you all VERY MUCH :(

I think its time for a update!!

Its almost 13 weeks since it happened
and we still have a long way to go (hopefully) !!

I'm so sorry to tell you again
but Wilfred my sweet husband is still unconscious :(
They describe his condition as " Vegetative state "
also called ~ coma vigil ~.
For me, my daughters and the rest of the family
is it a very difficult and emotional time.

It takes a lot of energy and strength
to go every day to the hospital.
But I have that power at the moment.
I feel very strong
and I will give all my strength to the situation.
I will do all for Wilfred :)

The nurses put him a few hours a day in a wheelchair,
which is better for his bones, muscles,
lungs, general condition and also for his attitude !!
The last two days I was drive around with him
throughout the hospital.
We also visit the restaurant for a cup coffee (for me..) ;)
This is a very difficult moment
because other people are watching ...
because he is conscious and does not look like normal.
He suffers from seizures and muscle twitching.
I will NEVER be ashamed of my husband !!!

We are still waiting for a place in a nursing home.
For the time he will be with us ..........

for all your comments and
for sending soooo many mails.
It means a lot to us !!!
We need your support,
it gives us the strength to continue....
Sorry I have not always the time to mail you back!!
I'm everyday at the hospital.

The situation is terrible !!
He is still unconscious.
The neurologist
told us that he has much brain damage :(
And the cardiologist
told us that his heart has suffered extensive damage :(
He was four weeks in the intensive care unit.

He is now on a regular department and has a single room.
The next step is to a nursing home.
We wait now that he gets a place in a nursing home.
There are always waiting lists
and in between time he remains in hospital.
The doctors can do nothing for him....
but we are still hoping for a miracle !!!

We feel powerless....
My life at the moment
is just a nightmare
a scary nightmare without end :(
Fortunately,
I have much support
from my daughters family friends and neighbors !!
And I get lots of support
from all my blog friends around the whole world :-)

Thank you all that you are here for us.
It gives us the strength we need.
It is incredible how you empathize.
THANKS !!!!

We still live in great uncertainty :(
The situation is still the same.
He had the last few days, a pneumonia
but which is now under control with antibiotics.
The fever is gone.
He is still unconscious.
We are waiting until he will open his eyes.
I'm really scared !!

June 16th was his Birthday
it was a very difficult day :(

I feel myself so helpless when I see him.
I wish I could do something :(

With tears in my eyes ....
I write this post !!

My life has totally changed.
Something terrible happened :(

On Jun 2th late in the evening
my husband had a heavy heart attack.
They had to resuscitate along time.
He is in a very critical condition and he has brain damage.
He is still unconscious.
He is only 50 years and was always 100% healthy.

We are waiting on a miracle...

Time for a wedding ;-)

Recently ...
there were many weddings in my circle of friends :-)

Two months ago ...
I was a guest at the wedding of my squirrel friends
"Henry and Lisa".
It was such a funny little couple.

Last month I had three weddings:

My monkey friends "chita and pita"
They are always very busy creatures
and their wedding was a very busy meeting.
It was an excellent party.
Yeahhhh....

Last week we had a wedding in our family.
It was the wedding of my nephew
"Tyger" and his beautiful "Snow white"
They are both so romantic :-)

And yesterday was the wedding
of my best woof..woof.. friend
"Bo" and his craziest girlfriend "Lola".
They are our neighbors.
It is a very special couple.
The craziest couple of the neighborhood
haha ....

A long and happy life for the happy married couples !!

And now the truth
how I feel :(
I'm lonely ..
I can not eat or sleep.
I decided to ask my girlfriend to marry me !!

But I don't know how to do it.
I can just ask her
and hope she says yes ...

And what should I wear
a nice costume or
only a hat .....
I don't know
I think it's all nothing :(

I just ask her !!
If I can't say it to her face,
then I'll say it to her heart...

In the early morning

She is very sleepy
and she needs badly coffee, alot of coffee
to wake up .....

First she put the coffeemachine on ...
I must wait.. wait.. wait..
and after a few minutes
I receive my breakfast,
always first quality cat food
special for old cats :(
Its always the same
dry or wet food !!!

More addictions from my Mommy:
Coca-Cola : Only in the Netherlands with my face on it :)
Chocolate & Sweets :)
Strawberry: We have strawberries in our garden :)
She eats it almost EVERYDAY :))

Orange our national color ....

On April 30,
We are celebrate Koninginnedag ("Queen's Day"),
a national holiday to commemorate the birthday
of the country's (former) Queen.
It is by far the most widely celebrated holiday in the Netherlands.

On Queen's Day citizens do not need
a permit to sell goods on the street.
On this day the country turns into one big flea market,
on which everybody can sell second hand trinkets they no longer use.

The (rest of the) day is reserved for an open air party.
Especially Amsterdam has a reputation for celebrating Queen's Day
and generally draws somewhere between 500.000 and 2 million tourists
from the rest of the country.

The current monarch, Queen Beatrix,
visits towns on Queen's Day
where she is received with special celebrations,
often in the form of demonstrations of old-fashioned dances and crafts.

Orange is everywhere, even in the sky.

People really have no idea how good animals are for our mental health.

The benefits of sharing your life with an animal are vast.
Pets can help humans overcome illness and injury,
they can help lower blood pressure,
they can reduce stress and they can help people beat depression.

You might ask how can pets help people with depression?
It is quite simple really.
How can you feel bad about yourself and your situation
when you have a loyal friend who thinks the world of you ;-)

Pets can be the beginning of the recovery process.
Pets are so innocent and pure of heart
that they will love you regardless of if you are wearing
sweatpants and lounging around all day,
or if you actually have friends to see and places to go.

A pet can improve anyone's outlook on life.
A pet will without a doubt put a smile on your face.
If the pet doesn't make you happier,
then you must need serious help.

All in all,
a pet will provide a depressed person with somebody to love,
and will in return love the person back unconditionally.
A pet is a wonderful anti-depressant ...

It seems very interesting in our garden ...

Today I want to introduce you

to our new garden friends Jip and Jop :-)

A couple of blue tits (in Dutch Pimpelmees).

Jop is a very hard worker

and Jip flies and gives orders ...

(what women always do.... ;-)

They have a colourful mix of blue, yellow,

white and green and make the blue tit

one of the most attractive resident garden birds.

Almost any garden with a peanut feeder will attract

them and they readily breed in nestboxes.

The Blue Tit's song is

~ tsee-tsee-tsu-hu-hu-hu-hu ~

sounds very friendly ........ :))

I love this sound !!!

It was not easy to take pictures

because they are flying very quickly in and out the nestbox :(

I was sitting on my terrace and I had a lot of patience

and wait..wait..wait ...

and Kareltje behind the window

was looking ..hunting fantasy..looking .. !!!

After much patience, this is the result :-)

I could not choose so I made a collage ....

Easter Sunday and Monday are holidays,
but there are usually no big parties,
most people celebrate easter at home ...

Easter eggs or spring eggs
(in Dutch we say not egg but ~ ei ~ )
are special eggs given to celebrate
the Easter holiday or springtime.
The oldest tradition is to use natural or painted chicken eggs,
but a modern custom is to substitute chocolate eggs,
Yeahhhhhhhh...... MY FAVORITE :-)
or plastic eggs filled with confectionery such as jelly beans.

Children spend the morning decorating Easter eggs
with brightly colored paint and hunting chocolate eggs
that have been hidden by the Easter Mommy...
uhh... make that the Easter Bunny :-)

Wild horses !!! ~ My World ~

Yesterday I was walking
in the protected natural area behind our house.
It is a beautiful nature reserve with wild horses.
The wild horses are "Przewalski’s horses".
I had the chance to take some nice shots....
I see those horses almost every day ;)

It was early in the morning when I started walking.
They are shy for people and often they hide themselves.
We are proud that these horses live in our village.
They are expanding very quickly
and we sell them to other countries :-)

There are now many foals born !!!
I wanted to show you.
Above and below you see foals.
I am far away so the pictures are not sharp.
They protect the little very well.
I can not walk close because then they attack me :(
they are not friendly though they have foals....
Its the nature !!!

European Summer Time
is the arrangement in Europe by which clocks are advanced
by one hour in Spring to make the most of seasonal daylight.

That means for us:

Multi-coloured Netherlands :-)

The tulips
has come to be a loved symbol of the Netherlands.
Tulips are bulbflowers,
grown in all kinds of colours, shapes and sizes.
Many tourists visit the country just to see
the bright coloured flower and the astonishing view
over the bulb fields.

The season begins in March with crocuses,
followed by the daffodil.
In April the hyacinths and tulips blosssom
to some time in mid May, depending on the weather.
Later, in August it is time for the gladioli.

For tourists
the tulip is one of the national symbols of "Holland"
(as they call the Netherlands as a whole,
while this is only the NW part of the country).
We are living in the South!!

Even when spring is over, the Netherlands is still a garden,
visitors can enjoy flowers in the Netherlands all year round.

The tulips as landscape is transformed
into a spectacular display of color..
It looks like glorious patchwork!!

Reasons For Stress in Cats =^.^=

Like humans,
cats get stressed for many different reasons !!!
But most of the reasons for stress in cats can be
classified with one word ~ change ~

Cats are, for the most part,
creatures of habit, they love and understand routine.
A change, however small and seemingly inconsequential,
may be enough to trigger stress !!

Don't give a cat new, don't give a cat different.
Give a cat what they know, give a cat what they are used to.
What a cat is comfortable with is unlikely to cause anxiety or stress.

Among humans,
Depression is an illness that causes a person
to feel sad and hopeless for much of the time.
It is different from normal feelings of sadness,
grief, or low energy ...
People who own pets live longer,
have less stress,
and have fewer heart attacks !!!

I can see many birds and maybe cats and dogs !!

Heavy traffic is not here,
we are living very rural and quiet !!

It is my full time job ;)

The ice on the pond is melt and we can see the fish again.
I wonder sometimes how it goes with "Jerry the mouse"
and his family,
I hope so that they have survived the winter!!!

Sun is an important aspect of good care.
we all love the sun ☼
and it is essential to good health for all of us ....

After many grey weeks with many snow *
we had a surpise today .....
The sun ☼ was shining !!
Yeahhhhh...... incredible but true :-)

The white color in my garden had disappeared.
I was sitting today on my bench in the garden !!
I really enjoyed,
I closed my eyes and I felt the warm summer sun ☼
in my face ~ wonderful feeling ~ :-)

Today I saw that the spring bulbs come out !!!!
I took a few pictures ....

Walking and relaxing !!!

Yes I was walking in the wood,
its always so relaxing for me.
But the weather was grey ~ foggy ~ misty :(
The forest is close to my neighborhood.
I am there in 15 minutes.
On this cold and freezing day, I was looking for GREEN.
It was only in my imagination
but in real all is dry and withered !!
Spring where are you ....

I want to introduce you to a few friends :-)

These are "flip", "flop", and "flap"
my horse friends of the forest.

They belong to a riding school here in the neighborhood.

My best friend is the brown/white colored horse,
I call him "Flop". He stands in the middle.

I can touch him and he likes it very much.

Those other two are a little shy.

I always feed them apples.

If they see me ..

I think..
they will maybe think..

Yippieee.... there is the apple girl :-)

There was also a "Spy" in the wood !!

It makes me always afraid :(

Carnival in The Netherlands :-)

Seven weeks before Easter,
this year February 14th
a large part of The Netherlands goes mad.
"Carnival" has come again.

Canival or in Dutch we say Carnaval
but I call it "Vasteloavend"
because I live in the province Limburg
and we have our local dialect !!!

I live in the most southern province of The Netherlands,

Limburg,

where many Dutch go to celebrate it.

During Carnival, every town is one big party.

Dance to special Carnival music, join a Carnival parade

or watch one go by and let your hair down.

This is what Carnival is all about.

Originally, Carnival was a Catholic festival

and it is the perfect opportunity

to go a bit crazy for a few days....

Yeaahhhhh........

Many Dutch towns hold parades

consisting of papier-mache figures

on floats and people dressed up in outrageous outfits.

Music bands plays music as the normally staid citizens

suddenly dance together through the streets ....

Overall there are three different types

of Carnival celebrated in The Netherlands.

The most well-known variant is

known as the Rijnlandsche Carnival

and it shares many folklore traditions

with its German and Belgium counterparts.

Maastricht is famous for its Carnival

which mimics Italian, mostly Venician,

traditions, culture and costumes !!

When my father was younger

he also made BIG papier-mache figures,

for the great carnivals parades.

He is always so creative,

I think I have all my creative power
inherited from my father :-)

Depression, depression.

Gets to us all,

we don't know why ?

But it's always there ....

We "NEED" sun !!!

I don’t know what it is in the sun,

but it really boost up my energy and mood :-)

It makes me happy.

I just can’t live without the sun.

Sometimes I think,

I want to emigrate to a hot country .... LOL

I want to go outside,

and be happy,

spending time in nature can improve my mood

and make me feel more purposeful ....
I love it to work and to relax in my big garden.

I love it to walk in the woods

and love it to look at the waves of the sea :-)

I wish that my legs could touch the sea

and maybe i could jump in it :-)

I can only dream about it ....

But its not possible !!

It is winter,

and here is many snow and its very COLD :(

Spring where are you I need you ....

Kareltje needs also the sun :-)

Cats like to feel warm and secure

before they fall to sleep.

They also use the sunlight for a warming up !!

A heater in the house is not the same :(

Every week I bring carrots.

Today a few differences
between Me and my mommy meow..meow..
Fun ..fun..

Meow.. I walk always on my toes
and my Mommy on her feet.
I have beautiful soft toes
and my Mommy has weird toes
look so colorful and funny ..

Meow.. Look to my nice ear
it is so cute and I can hear all noises ..
My mommy has also ears
but they are always hidden under her hair ..

Meow.. Yippieee ........ I have a TAIL :-)
My tail is very important,
with my tail I can communicate and show my emotions.
My mommy has no tail at least I've never seen one !!!!

Meow.. I have two layers of fur.
On top is the hair that is responsible
for the color and pattern.
The bottom layer is responsible for the insulation ..
My color is orange white and its VERY soft :-)
My Mommy has dark blond colored hair
and its thin but also soft (nothing special ;) ..

Meow.. Our legs .. are very different look for yourself.
But I think that mine are softer
but her legs are much longer :-)

Meow.. By looking into my eyes you can see my mood.

If i'm frightened or excited,

then my pupil will be large and round.

If i'm angry, then is my pupil narrow.

Everyone says I have beautiful eyes :-)

Around my eyes, I have beautiful soft fur,

(No oopss ... I see the wrinkles are real)

Anyone that owns a cat knows
that most of them HATE the water...
Well apparently
there are some exceptions to the rule !!

Kareltje follows me everywhere.
Even at my bathroom.
If I take a bath he is watching me.

He is a spy ..... ;)

And when i take a shower he is waiting until I'm ready.
When I step out the shower he walks in it,
he loves it to walk through a little water ....

If I close the door
he is very hard meow..meow.. behind the door!!
He is a little silly CAT but we all know that ....

The Dutch have their own way of celebrating New Year.

They stay at home and celebrate quietly with the family until midnight.

It is the evening of the great, Dutch doughnut
( oliebol ).

These are deep-fried balls of dough in various flavours,

covered with icing sugar.

They are only eaten during the New year period.

The doughnuts are washed down with coffee ...... LOL

( I buy donuts at the bakery. )

Also one of my favorites is Dutch "waffles"

I bake themselves and also for my parents,

I make a total of 160 waffles.

They are yummieeeeeeeeee.........

Our family recipe

2 pounds all-purpose flour

1 pound soft white sugar

2 sticks butter

6 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 teaspoons baking powder or baking soda

6 eggs

In Dutch

1 kilo tarwe bloem

1 pond witte basterd suiker

1 pond boter

4 zakjes vanille suiker

2 zakjes backin

6 eieren

And Shortly after midnight "FIREWORKS"

It sounds like a major war has broken out

but luckily there are also many sky rockets

and decorative fireworks .....

(Its not my favorite, I look always behind the windows :(

Kareltje is very afraid of fireworks.

He runs totally stressed throught the house.

I always have the doors ( INSIDE the house )

open so he can run where he wants ......

Animals have very sensitive hearing !!!

Loud bangs and whistles can cause

pain in their ears.

By following simple guidelines

your pet need not suffer.

Keep dogs and cats inside when fireworks

are being let off !!

In Japanese,
the word "ori" means to fold and the word "gami" means paper.
So, origami means "to fold paper".
Origami is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding.
But there’s more to origami than its name.

My balls are very difficult for beginners.
A ball consists of 64 elements
(64 leaves from 1 x 1 inch ).
First fold and then stick together.
The cube model consists of 4 leaves
and thats easy to make for beginners :-)

It was not easy to make good shots
because its all from glossy paper!!

Next time you can see
the Dutch Christmas tree :-)

One of my hobbies is
taking care of plants and breeding of new plants.
I'm now working with orchids :-)
I attend them with all my love
and always get them back in the bloom.
I have many colors and they are beauty's in my livingroom.

Be careful with our trees :

(I'm a nature lover..)

There is nothing more Christmassy than a Real Christmas tree.

So how about having the same one year after year?

Well, now you can get trees that you don't have to throw away

but can be replanted and kept until next year...

In Dutch can you rent a tree ...

The green company will bring a tree to your house.

Then they will come and pick it up after Christmas !!

By renting a tree you are taking a positive step towards

helping the environment and protecting the habitat :-)

A real Christmas tree

is a wonderful holiday decoration for humans,

but its texture and odors make it an inviting chew toy for pets.

Plus, the decorations on it are also very attractive to dogs and cats.

Kareltje jumps sometimes in the tree and play with the balls

(I have many Christmas balls of paper "origami" hand made.

Japanese paper folding art is a hobby of mine.

In one of my next posts I show my origami paper balls,

I have no photo at the moment ;)

The reason why we all LOVE a real TREE:

~ They are alive and breathing in our home.

~ A Christmas tree is the coolest seasonal houseplant of all time.

~ They are the most naturally shaped trees.

~ It smells YUMMIE...

~ Living trees don't dry out like cut trees.

Our Christmas tree will be delivered this week

Yeahhhhh.....

I now I'm always late ;)
